View full detailsThere is probably no more iconic design, than a Gibson Les Paul. The scratch plate, headstock and body shape are some of the most recognisable guitar features in the musical world. Genuine Les Pauls also come with a hefty price tag, which can be off putting for some. The used Gibson market is full of quirky, one off, and interesting guitars. There are players who swear by the traditional 1960s Gibson guitars, as you cannot replicate the authentic sound they produce. This is in part due to the wood used, and how they were crafted. There was also another golden age for Gibson, in the 1990s.
Pre used pickups are one reason for a warmer tone. Guitars can have a breaking in period where they sound crisp and sharp. Gibson is known for having a warmer tone, due to their use of humbucker pickups, and therefore our second hand Gibson guitars produce a wonderfully unique tone that you won't hear on new guitars.
Although the Les Paul, SG, and firebird have been in production for a while; certain model builds are not. The wood, design, and manufacturing methods have changed over time with variations of the same models. For instance, the Gibson Les Paul Standard 120th Anniversary 2014 and the Gibson Les Paul Traditional 2016 are the same model of guitar, but they will be built slightly differently. This means they likely play and sound different.
Gibson have some staples in the guitar community, the two most notable are the Gibson Les Paul, and The Gibson SG. Then there is the truly unique and impossible to replicate custom shop variations. The custom shop is exactly that, a customised version of a popular model. Gibson has had moments in its history where they were deemed the de facto choice of guitar, this was the 1960s, and the 1990s to early 2000s. While past brand new Custom Shop models are difficult to come by, you can get them on the resale market.
There are some truly wonderful guitars in circulation. Gibson have made a lot of guitars in their long history, and people love to collect them. Nothing is more appealing to a guitar collector than something that is rare, or even one of a kind!
Some of the best guitarists in the world are renowned for playing the blues, or blues rock. Joe Bonamassa has played a large selection of Gibson guitars over the years, building up a grand collection. For the blues players, the tone and depth you get from a Gibson is unmatched.
The birthplace of heavy metal is not a title Birmingham take lightly. The great Tony Iommi himself played a Gibson SG. Visit us at our store, as the largest independent music reseller in Birmingham, you will find something you love!
