Why Choose The Electro-Harmonix Glove Overdrive?
Amp-Like MOSFET Drive Character
The OD Glove is built around a MOSFET-style overdrive/distortion voice, giving it a dynamic, amp-like response that works well for players who want more than a basic mid-hump overdrive. It can move from light boost and gritty breakup to heavier drive sounds, making it more versatile than many single-purpose overdrive pedals. Electro-Harmonix positions it as a pedal that can move from clean boost through crunch and into saturated high gain.
Great For Boost, Crunch And Higher-Gain Sounds
One of the Glove’s biggest strengths is range. Lower gain settings can push an already driven amp, medium settings deliver punchy rock rhythm tones, and higher gain settings provide thicker distortion for heavier riffs and lead work.
This makes it a useful choice if you want one compact pedal that can cover several gain roles instead of needing separate boost, overdrive and distortion pedals.
Tone Shift For Extra Sound Shaping
The Tone Shift feature gives the pedal an extra layer of tonal flexibility. This allows players to adjust the overall response of the pedal to suit different guitars, amps and playing styles. It is especially useful when swapping between single coils and humbuckers, or when trying to make the pedal sit better in a live mix.
Selectable 9V Or 18V Internal Voltage
A standout feature of the OD Glove is its selectable internal voltage option, allowing operation at 9V or 18V internally. Electro-Harmonix highlights this as one of the pedal’s advanced tone-shaping features.
In practical terms, this gives players more flexibility in feel and headroom. The 9V setting can feel more compressed and familiar, while the 18V setting can offer a more open response with extra dynamic range.
Compact, Pedalboard-Friendly Format
The Glove uses a compact die-cast chassis, making it easy to fit onto most pedalboards. It is simple to power, easy to set up and straightforward to use in front of a clean amp, a slightly driven amp, or alongside other gain pedals.
True Bypass Switching
The OD Glove features true bypass, helping preserve the direct signal when the pedal is switched off. This is useful for players who want the pedal to stay transparent when bypassed, particularly in smaller pedalboards or simple signal chains.
Comparison Against Popular Alternatives
Electro-Harmonix OD Glove vs Electro-Harmonix Soul Food
The Soul Food is based around transparent Klon-style boost and overdrive tones, while the OD Glove is more suited to thicker overdrive and distortion sounds. Choose the Soul Food if you want cleaner boost and subtle drive. Choose the Glove if you want more gain range and a more aggressive rock voice.
Electro-Harmonix OD Glove vs Boss SD-1
The Boss SD-1 has a focused midrange push and is excellent for tightening an amp or boosting solos. The OD Glove offers a wider gain range and a more distortion-capable sound, making it better for players who want one pedal to cover both rhythm crunch and heavier drive.
Electro-Harmonix OD Glove vs ProCo RAT
The RAT is more raw, gritty and aggressive, often sitting between distortion and fuzz. The OD Glove is smoother and more amp-like, with strong overdrive-to-distortion flexibility. Choose the RAT for sharper, nastier distortion. Choose the Glove for a more controlled drive pedal with broader everyday use.
Electro-Harmonix OD Glove vs Fulltone OCD-Style Overdrives
The OD Glove is often chosen by players looking for open, amp-like drive tones in a compact and affordable format. It sits in a similar musical space to OCD-style overdrive pedals, offering dynamic crunch, strong output and flexible gain, but with the value and practicality associated with Electro-Harmonix.
Who Is It For?
Beginner Players
A great first drive pedal for beginners who want more flexibility than a basic overdrive. The controls are easy to understand, and the pedal can cover light gain, rock crunch and heavier drive as playing tastes develop.
Intermediate Players
Ideal for players building a practical pedalboard. The Glove can act as a main gain pedal, a boost into another drive, or a heavier option alongside a lower-gain overdrive.
Professional Players
A useful compact drive for working musicians who need a dependable overdrive/distortion pedal that can adapt to different guitars, amps and live situations.

Why Choose An Overdrive / Distortion Pedal?
An overdrive/distortion pedal gives players direct control over gain, sustain and harmonic character without needing to rely entirely on amplifier volume. This is especially useful for home players, gigging musicians and recording guitarists who need consistent drive sounds at different volume levels.
A pedal like the Electro-Harmonix Glove is particularly useful because it bridges the gap between overdrive and distortion. It can add a light push to your amp, create crunchy rhythm tones, or deliver thicker gain for solos and heavier riffs.

Yes. It is well suited to classic rock because it can produce crunchy rhythm tones, singing lead sustain and amp-like drive without needing excessive volume.
Can it be used as a boost pedal?
Yes. With the gain set lower and the volume raised, the Glove can be used to push an amplifier or another drive pedal.
Is it suitable for single-coil guitars?
Yes. The Tone control and Tone Shift feature help adapt the pedal to brighter single-coil pickups, making it useful with Stratocaster, Telecaster, Jazzmaster and similar guitars.
Is it suitable for humbuckers?
Yes. Humbuckers work well with the Glove, especially for thicker rock rhythm tones and saturated lead sounds.
Where should it go in a pedal chain?
It is commonly placed after a tuner and before modulation, delay and reverb. It can also be stacked with other drive pedals depending on the sound you want.
