The Gibson SG Standard Ebony is a solid-body electric guitar built in the traditional SG style, featuring a contoured double-cutaway mahogany body designed for light weight and upper-fret access. It uses a set mahogany neck with a rounded profile and a rosewood fingerboard, typically built to a 24.75-inch scale length with 22 frets. The overall construction follows Gibson’s modern interpretation of the late-1960s SG Standard design, maintaining the classic proportions and ergonomic body bevels.

The electronics consist of two Gibson 490 humbucking pickups, with a 490R in the neck position and a 490T in the bridge, wired through a standard dual-volume, dual-tone control layout and a three-way toggle switch. This setup is designed to deliver a wide tonal range, from warmer, rounded neck sounds to brighter, more cutting bridge tones with increased midrange presence. The pickups are voiced to emulate a classic humbucker character while offering slightly higher output and clarity for modern amplification contexts.

Hardware includes a Nashville Tune-O-Matic bridge paired with a stopbar tailpiece for stable intonation and sustain, along with Grover Rotomatic tuning machines for reliable tuning stability. The Ebony finish is a gloss nitrocellulose lacquer applied over the mahogany body, highlighting the instrument’s carved contours and binding details while maintaining a traditional SG aesthetic associated with classic rock instruments.
