The PRS SE Custom 24 Spalted Maple is a striking exotic-top version of one of PRS’s most successful designs, combining the familiar Custom 24 platform with a highly figured spalted maple veneer for a distinctive one-of-a-kind appearance.

Built in Indonesia, this SE Custom 24 uses a mahogany back with a beveled maple top and spalted maple veneer, paired with a Wide Thin maple neck and rosewood fingerboard.

A pair of PRS 85/15 “S” humbuckers provides clear, powerful modern tones, while a push/pull Tone control adds coil-split sounds for greater versatility.

This Pre-Owned example is in Good condition.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT

The biggest visual attraction is the spalted maple veneer.

Spalting creates dark natural lines and patterns in the timber, meaning no two tops look exactly alike. That gives this version much more visual individuality than a standard flame-maple SE Custom 24.

Underneath the exotic appearance is the proven Custom 24 formula: 24 frets, comfortable Wide Thin neck, dual humbuckers and coil splitting.

The result is a guitar that looks special without sacrificing the everyday versatility that makes the SE Custom 24 such a popular working instrument.

DETAILED FEATURES & BENEFITS

Spalted Maple Veneer

The top features a genuine spalted maple veneer over the maple cap.

The distinctive dark lines are created naturally within the timber and give every example a different visual pattern.

Beveled Maple Top

Beneath the veneer is a beveled maple top, providing the familiar carved appearance associated with PRS Custom-style guitars.

Mahogany Back

The mahogany back provides warmth, sustain and strong midrange response.

This pairs naturally with the brighter character of the maple top.

Set Maple Neck

The maple neck is glued into the body using set-neck construction.

This contributes to a smooth neck-to-body transition and gives the guitar the familiar PRS playing feel.

Wide Thin Neck Profile

The Wide Thin neck profile is designed for fast and comfortable playing.

It is especially well suited to lead work, modern rock and players who prefer a slimmer neck.

Rosewood Fingerboard

The rosewood fingerboard provides a smooth, traditional playing surface and carries PRS’s iconic bird inlays.

10" Fingerboard Radius

The 10" radius gives a good balance between comfortable chord work and easy bending.

25" Scale Length

The 25" scale length sits between traditional Gibson and Fender dimensions.

This gives the strings a balanced feel with enough tension for clarity while remaining comfortable for bends.

24 Frets

The full 24-fret layout provides two complete octaves on each string.

This is one of the defining features of the Custom 24 platform.

PRS 85/15 “S” Humbuckers

The guitar is fitted with a pair of PRS 85/15 “S” humbuckers.

These are designed to offer extended high and low-end response with good clarity under both clean and driven conditions.

Push/Pull Coil Splitting

Pulling the Tone control splits the humbuckers for brighter, leaner single-coil-style sounds.

This greatly expands the tonal range beyond a conventional dual-humbucker setup.

Three-Way Blade Selector

The 3-way blade provides:

• Bridge pickup

• Both pickups

• Neck pickup

The coil split can then be used with these positions for additional tonal variation.

PRS Molded Tremolo

The PRS patented molded tremolo allows smooth pitch modulation while retaining the familiar PRS bridge feel.

PRS-Designed Tuners

PRS-designed tuners provide accurate tuning adjustment and complement the nickel hardware.

HOW IT COMPARES

Spalted Maple vs Standard SE Custom 24

The core construction and electronics are closely related to the standard SE Custom 24.

The major difference is the spalted maple veneer, which gives the guitar a far more individual appearance.

SE Custom 24 vs Core Custom 24

The SE version is designed to capture the essential Custom 24 format at a considerably more accessible price point.

It uses PRS-designed SE hardware and 85/15 “S” pickups rather than the USA Core components found on a Core Custom 24.

Humbucker vs Coil-Split

In full humbucker mode, the pickups provide a thicker and more powerful response.

With the coils split, the sound becomes brighter and leaner for cleaner rhythm and more single-coil-style textures.

FAIR DEAL MUSIC EXPERT VERDICT ★★★★★

Best suited for: Players wanting classic PRS Custom 24 versatility with a much more individual exotic-wood appearance.

Customers usually upgrade from: Entry-level dual-humbucker guitars, basic PRS SE models and standard Superstrat-style electrics.

Most commonly paired with: Valve amplifiers, overdrive, distortion, boost, delay and reverb.

Our tip: The 85/15 “S” pickups are at their best when you use both full humbucker and split-coil sounds rather than treating the guitar purely as a rock machine. The split settings add genuinely useful cleaner tones.

Showroom feedback: The spalted maple top is the obvious draw, but underneath it is a very practical Custom 24. The 25" scale, 24 frets and Wide Thin neck make it comfortable, while the coil splits give it enough range for far more than just high-gain playing.
